Let’s take a tour around Science Life NY
by Greg on Aug.19, 2009, under Science Life Alert
Just like to give an update to everyone about what you can read on Science Life NY lately. As of today, I have five contributors writing about how they interact with science in their daily lives. More on them later. I have been torn on how to present the many science and political news i come across through the many digital (and magazine) media outlets i consume. I used to create these time consuming super posts of stories i find interesting. I then tried to use the share function on my Google Reader, but that did not seem to work. No one found that click worthy. I already had a twitter account (@sciencelifeny) that was pumping out my posts to my friends following me. Only recently have i found it to be a better way to bring attention to the articles, pictures, stories and media i find interesting.
Twitter as drug
by Greg on Jun.24, 2009, under Science Life
I have been heavily using Twitter as a way to satiate my instant news fix. I have a large long wide google reader list but it’s just not the same. Following the thoughts of the likes of Jonah Lehrer, astronomy professors, sci channel, science and the city etc has an immediacy and personability that reading blogs just doesn’t have.
Unfortunately though, I don’t know the rules. There seems to be some major etiquette about who to follow, how to reply etc. Unlike facebook which has a built in reciprocation strategy, it seems the users of Twitter have instituted its own. If anyone knows of a good article primer, please let me know.
It’s also some high level fun looking at the top twitted terms. It’s a global expression of thought emergence. I wonder if advertisers or stock brokers look to it for tips? I hope twitter extends the number of terms.

Twouble with Twitters Video

This is exactly what i imagine when people twitter. just this like this. On another related note, jim and i used the Wayne’s World term “schwing” independent of me reading his tweet about “bringing it back”. somehow, social networking has me tapped into his most random tweeted ideas.
