Dorkbot: The Towel, the reusable, recyclable model plane of garbage

I have been saying for some time now that i had the opportunity to team up with the originator and coordinator of Dorkbot NYC, Douglas Repetto, and film the last two Dorkbot meetings. My colleague, Joe Frey, and i felt that the meeting was so fun and interesting, it needed to be archived and put on the web. So, we approached Douglas to film and format each presentation for the web. I hope we can continue doing it when the next season starts in September. Right now, we are showing the entire presentation from start to finish, but later on, we hope to cut them down to the most interesting parts of these “fun with electricity” projects. They run the gamut, from art, science, technology, crafts, commercial and the highest forms of creativity and ingenuity with electricity being the current running between them. If you haven’t been to one yet, you are really missing out. The community is fun and interesting, and the setting is always low key. If you have anything you want to present, let them know!
The presentation in this video is of a model airplane, dubbed the towel, that is made from throw away parts. It allows the crafty mind to design their own plane that they can test without fear of breaking. They include videos of the plane in flight. After the presentation, they took their best flyer out to fly in front of location 1 in soho and flew it around to the delight of the crowd and to the chagrin of the neighbors.
