Lowell Eschen over at the American Museum of Natural History has sent me a much appreciated run down of the museum’s March lineup of space related events. Like almost all the things the museum does, it looks to be a great month:
Virtual Universe: Our Solar Neighborhood with Jackie Faherty
Tuesday, March 2, 6:30 pm
Hayden Planetarium Space Theater
$15 Adults, $13.50 Members, students, seniors
http://www.amnh.org/programs/programs.php?date=2010-03-02&event_id=1627
Join Jackie Faherty for a tour of Earth’s neighborhood. On the first Tuesday of each month, Virtual Universe offerings take visitors on trips through our solar system and beyond in live, interactive programs that include question-and-answer sessions. The Museum invites all to take the journey of a lifetime.

The American Museum of Natural History is bringing a winter solstice holiday themed Sci Cafe on December 2nd. Should be an interesting talk on that very tiresome meme: Human nature (a total myth if you didn’t know):
NAUGHTY VS. NICE: THE BIOLOGICAL BASIS OF GREED AND ALTRUISM
FEATURING BIOLOGIST LEE DUGATKIN AND AMNH CURATOR ROB DESALLE
WHAT: SciCafe presents Naughty vs. Nice: The Biological Basis of Greed and Altruism, featuring biologist Lee Dugatkin, University of Louisville, and AMNH Curator of Invertebrate Zoology Rob DeSalle.
Join fellow New Yorkers to discuss what makes us naughty or nice by uncovering the evolutionary and cultural roots of greed and altruism, and compare these seemingly human behaviors to those of other species. (continue reading…)

I hope this opera finds itself on PBS-HD. That’s my favorite way to experience it:
Physics in Opera
The Theory of EverythingPhysicists have long sought a theory that would unify or explain the theories of all fundamental interactions of nature. Call it the Holy Grail of physics, if you will. Now even non-scientists can observe this search at Encompass New Opera Theatre’s “The Theory of Everything,” a new opera with music by John David Earnest and libretto by Nancy Rhodes.
