Last day of march! go out before the april rains come (these are from the gothamist.com):
PICTURE PARTY: The LVHRD folks are hosting their 3rd annual PHTHRD. “For the past two years PHTHRD was a live photography competition where rival shutterbugs faced off on a secret brief revealed simultaneously to the competitors and audience. This year, we’re asking you to bring your camera (video or still). Instead of photog vs. photog, it’s all of us against the world. Bring a camera, so we can set the record for the world’s most photographed party.” A Flickr set will be created, naturally, and the Universal Record Database will certify the record. Plus: free Dewars and Brooklyn Brewery beer (be sure to use the code at checkout).

Culled from the list:
FILM: MoMA’s New Directors/New Films 2009 series continues tonight with an early screening of Louise-Michel (pictured). “The day after a group of women industrial workers are assured of their company’s stability, they are blindsided by management’s relocation of the factory. Everything’s gone, including management, and they are left with a pittance in severance pay.” The twisted social satire comes to involve a hitman and lots of hijinks.

Here are some worthwhile events i snatched from the Gothamist:
ART: Tonight a new exhibit gets unveiled at Lesley Heller’s gallery. “Meticulously-rendered, acrylic on wood panel paintings by Nick Ghiz present humorous, off-beat, fictionalized narratives of New York City life. In the viewing room, recent abstract paintings by Mike Childs feature organic shapes and striking color combinations counterbalanced against architectonic, grid-like patterns. In the garden, Tom Doyle’s most recent vertical, monolithic wooden sculpture marks a dramatic departure from his previous lyrical combinations of corresponding forms.” We love Ghiz’s version of NYC (pictured)!

I will be posting worthwhile events from the daily Gothamist events email:
PROTEST: Hip hop trailblazer Russell Simmons will join the families of those in prison for drug offenses, the formerly incarcerated, and a motivated crowd of activists for a rally outside Governor Paterson’s Manhattan office to demand an end to the Rockefeller Drug Laws. Lawmakers in Albany are close to finalizing a bill that would reform the laws, which mandate heavy mandatory sentencing even for first-time, low-level offenders. But though Paterson has long been an ally of the movement, some are worried that his proposed compromise bill doesn’t go far enough. Today they’ll make some noise outside his office to give him some extra motivation. More info here.
Watch Nova: Extreme Ice

This could be a seminal moment in understanding the effects of climage change and global warming. Tomorrow night at 8 pm, PBS is airing Nova’s Extreme Ice, a photographer’s journey looking at the rapid and cataclysmic process of the world’s melting ice. These are unprecented human events. Think of it as watching all of the world’s skyscrapers just falling to the ground. And these skyscrapers are much, much bigger.
