Steamy Days, Tropical NightsThursday nights are perfect for seeing the New York Botanical Garden’s newest exhibit, the Edible Garden, and checking out their Edible Evenings: A Celebration of Wine, Beer, and Food events. This Thursday’s event is called “Tropical Treats and Tempos,” a subject that’s perfectly suited to cultural historian and Latin American culinary expert Maricell Presilla. She’s done considerable research on Latin American agricultural history with an emphasis on tropical crops and chocolate production. Her latest book is The New Taste of Chocolate: A Cultural and Natural History of Chocolate with Recipes.

The Engine Burns Blue
This image shows a cutting-edge solar-electric propulsion thruster in development at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., that uses xenon ions for propulsion. An earlier version of this solar-electric propulsion engine has been flying on NASA's Dawn mission to the asteroid belt. This engine is being considered as part of the Asteroid Initiative, a proposal to robotically capture a small near-Earth asteroid and redirect it safely to a stable orbit in the Earth-moon system where astronauts can visit and explore it.
