New Science Channel shows: Future Of and Headgames

Science Channel has been very fortunate to occupy the niche it does in the cable channel universe. Save for PBS, who has to split its time with history and cultural programming, it is science nerd’s paradise. Due to emphasis on more technical and advanced science and engineering faire, it is able to never limit its programming to easy subjects. It has a healthy relationship with BBC intellectual property, and it has its pick of the more impressive discovery channel content, like mythbusters.
Recently, Science channel has forged ahead to produce it’s own programming. There is the always improving and cutting edge science news show Brink, the sometimes uneven but mostly entertaining The Science of the Movies and the kinetic Catch it Keep It.. Tonight @9, multifaceted humorous twitterverse personality Baratunde Thurston hosts the premiere of PopSci’s Future of, a joint venture with the magazine Popular science that looks at interesting science innovations. When i was a kid, nothing made me more excited about science than an episode of Beyond Tomorrow; I have high hopes for Future Of.
Science Channel and Whoopi Goldberg are also developing a science themed game show named Head Games. They are looking for contestants and audience in the New York City Area as well as viewer created science related videos to put on the show.
With the right humor and production value, Science Channel can up the intellectual ante on generic cable formats. Introducing basic science ideas in fun ways can lead to positive popularizing results.
