Catch Jungle Fever with Botanist Susan Pell

Cool down this summer by attending a lecture on a place that’s even more hot and humid than New York – Papua New Guinea. Botanical explorer Susan Pell will be at the Bell House on Tuesday to talk about her work on the Louisiade Archipelago, a volcanic island chain off the coast of Papua New Guinea. These islands are home to rare plants and animals found nowhere else on earth, and this year Pell led an expedition to locate and identify them. She’ll chronicle her team’s search, including boat hopping from island to island; hikes across swollen rivers teeming with crocodiles; and encounters with giant spiders, boa constrictors, and flying foxes.
