event: The Greatest Show on Earth: An Evening with Richard Dawkins
by Greg on Aug.04, 2009, under Science Event
Famed scientific thinker, evolutionary biologist and ardent atheist Richard Dawkins will be gracing the LEED certified halls of the New York Academy of Sciences this October. Tickets are available. Networking opportunities after the lecture are being advertised. The author of the controversial book The Selfish Gene will map out the rock solid case that science has built to prove that the current bio reality we see is a result of evolution by means of natural selection pressures, an argument made by Darwin 150 years ago. Hopefully someone can ask him how Bill Maher, as science illiterate as a celebrity can get, has been recently chosen as this year’s Richard Dawkins Award. The award usually goes “to honoring an outstanding atheist whose work has done most to raise public awareness of atheism during that year”.
The Greatest Show on Earth: An Evening with Richard Dawkins
“Intelligent Design” is being taught in our schools and educators are being asked to “teach the controversy” behind evolutionary theory. At the same time, creationists object that the world is too elegant, too complex to have developed without an intelligent designer and that there is no evidence for Darwin’s theory. So Richard Dawkins has decided to answer the creationists—and arm the evolutionists—with the spectacular evidence all around us.
Earning his reputation as “Darwin’s Rottweiler,” Dawkins lays out the evidence that evolution is an incontrovertible fact—the plain truth—with piercing clarity and panache. The Greatest Show on Earth is a thrilling tour into our distant past and into the interstices of life on earth. To be released in time for the 150th anniversary of On the Origin of Species’ publication, here is the case for evolution argued by the most fearsome intellect in public discourse.
