thanks for commenting caroline. I don't disagree with the idea that the crafting of conspiracy theories is a part of our mind's operations. We constantly look to create consonance from dissonance. Our brains are pattern machines and we try to make sense of this place sometimes with complicated explanations. I am excited to read what you are looking for. making a conspiracy theory seems like part of culture evolution.

But what about the pervasive conspiracy theory that can be refuted with actual evidence? Why does that last? and the ones i hope the articles talk about are the ones that try to explain paradigm shifting moments, like september 11 or evolution or a black man winning the presidency.

eventually, this type of debate, where intricate conspiracy trumps evidence, is really important to science. i dont want the process of conspiracy to be totally eliminated, i want science to engage them, and win.

greg i don't have time to type out my reasons right now but i happen to believe that Conspiracy Theory, with capital C and T, is an important part of the fabric of contemporary mythology and, from an anthroplogical perspective, necessary in our development as a species. this is not to say that i think each individual conspiracy theory is true, just that its presence in the cultural landscape is a huge aspect of how we make sense of the world. i want to link you to some articles from reality sandwich about "synchromysticism," which is something of a hermetic art that seeks to match the synchronicities presence in conspiracy theory with pop culture artifacts. i'll look it up in a bit.

i just typed out a long response on my belief that conspiracy theory, as a whole, plays an important part in our understanding of the world, from a Jungian perspective. and then it disappeared : / This is not to say that i think each individual conspiracy theory is valid, just that I am interested in the way they contribute to contemporary mythology.
