Event: The science of Lie Detection
by Greg on Apr.09, 2009, under Science Event
A friend told me that one allure of Fox TV’s show Lie To Me is how they show that skills the protagonist uses to root out crime are applied to real world situations of how celebrities or iconic figures lie or betray their true feelings. I am not a person that is preoccupied with knowing if people are lying to me, but i understand if someone wanted that as their super mutant power. For me, most things are lies without some proof. Not that it makes lying any good, bu i would rather be able to shoot cards charged with kinetic energy instead. For those people who want to catch that person in the lie, you may be interested in this event:

Saturday April 11
| Since 9/11, governments worldwide, especially ours, are making more and more use of truth technologies. Some truth extractions are highly performative, and are even televised. This newfound enthusiasm is even reflected in the subject matter of our latest television crime dramas. This special presentation, brought to us by the On Certainty exhibit at Bose Pacia, is entitled “Rewiring the Soul: Technologies of the Truth.” Lawrence Liang will present his paper examining the philosophical and cultural history of lie detection technologies, as well as the effect of the media and popular discourse on our reliance on these technologies. |
